We are an active group of individuals devoted to the study of letter boxes. From modest beginnings three decades ago the Letter Box Study Group has grown to become the recognised authority on the subject - all through the efforts of its members.

There are many ways that people come to us: as a spin-off from philately; from a general interest in street furniture or social history; from an interest in Britain's industrial heritage - the iron-founders and their products.

Frequently someone just notices V R cast on a letter box (standing for Victoria Regina) and an enquiring mind gets intrigued and wants to find out more.

Please look at the other pages on this site to find out more about us and what we do. We hope that you will come to appreciate the wide scope of the subject and its fascinating depth.

New members are very much welcome. The Study Group still has much work to do and every member - no matter how new to the subject - can start to contribute straight away!

This web site is not designed as a source of comprehensive information on letter boxes; the Study Group itself exists to provide this. Rather this site aims to introduce you to our area of study and to explain the Group to you - and to extend a cordial invitation to join us.
